Dental checkups are very important in maintaining good oral health and hygiene. Even if you are not experiencing any pain, discomfort or issues with your teeth and gums a regular checkup by your dentist can catch problems early or even prevent more serious problems from occurring in the future.

What to Expect at a Dentist Checkup

When you arrive at our clinic, you will be greeted by our friendly staff and asked to make yourself comfortable in the patient waiting room. After a short wait, you will be invited into the dental examination room, where you will meet your dentist and be offered a seat in our very comfortable dental chair. Your dentist will discuss your dental issues and concerns with you before beginning an exam.

X-rays of your teeth and jawbone will be taken during the exam. This allows the dentist to see if any issues below the surface might not be detected.

The dentist will also examine your teeth and gums to see if any problems need to be addressed.

Any issues discovered will be discussed with you, and if necessary, the dentist will be able to point out the issue on your X-ray results or by using a small camera and displaying the image on a screen beside you.

The dentist will then recommend treatment and/or good oral health routines. You will also have the option to ask any questions you may have.

What do dentists look for in a check-up

Your dentist will look for tooth decay and cavities, discolouration of the teeth, chips and cracks, gum disease, and issues below the gum line that need addressing.

Your dentist will also check for signs of oral cancer and misalignment in your bite.

Why it is worth having regular check-ups

Regular dental checkups provide the opportunity to discover problems early enough to treat them with the least invasive treatments and prevent more serious dental problems.

Cavities and tooth decay can be discovered early and filled, eliminating the need for future root canal treatment and crowns. Gum disease causes tooth loss and can also be discovered and treated to save your natural teeth.

The goal is to save your natural teeth and preserve oral health for as long as possible. A regular visit to the dentist is very beneficial.

Patients Covered by PRSI
